August Newsletter – Migrant Mentoring Scheme

We are looking for individuals to join our pool of Mentors(Volunteer) to help us to build our new mentoring scheme. We welcome applications from across the UK, as all mentoring will be via online platforms.

Throughout the year, we occasionally host training programmes for migrant communities focused on topics like leadership, rights, and advocacy. We are looking to build these programmes by introducing a new mentoring scheme so that participants and graduates of our programmes are able to further build the skills needed for their leadership and personal development.

Our upcoming Migrant Aspiration Programme (MAP) will be your first opportunity to mentor. MAP is a 3-month online training programme that will support participants from migrant communities across the UK to create real change. Participants will be given opportunities to gain the skills needed to become leaders, advocates, and activists for themselves and others in their community. This could include becoming a community organiser, a board member, or taking on another leadership position in their community.

Mentoring is a phenomenal way to share your knowledge and give guidance to those looking to build their leadership and personal skills through learning from the experiences of others. As many of the participants on our programmes are interested in advocacy and local leadership, we are particularly looking for individuals that have experience working or volunteering in migration, advocacy, and related sectors.

Mentors will have flexibility in regards to the date/timing of the mentoring sessions, but you must be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months. We expect mentors to connect with their mentees a maximum of 3 hours/month. Mentors are required to attend 1-2 training sessions prior to being paired with a mentee. Please note that this role is voluntary.
