London Network Meeting Nov 2020: Impact of Covid-19 on frontline migrant workers and communities of colour

On the 24th of November, we met online for the quarterly London network meeting. This quarter, we chose to focus on the impact of Covid-19 on frontline migrant workers and communities of colour. We were joined by Patrick Vernon, prominent Windrush campaigner, to learn more about his work in this area, as well as Danielle Manson, who led MRN’s survey reporting on this topic.
Many of the frontline workers highlighted in the presentation were from a migrant, EU citizen or Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background (BAME), who may lack awareness of their worker and welfare rights and entitlements, and may be continuing work, or having to return to work to avoid destitution, or due to their immigration conditions. It was great to have an introduction topic from Patrick and Danielle, ahead of the final publication of MRN’s report.
In the future, we will be holding more, similar events and we would love for anyone to get in touch that would like to highlight their work in the sector and importantly, ways that others can support and collaborate alongside your organisation. If you’re interested, send an email to london@migrantsrights.org.uk.
